Who is this program for?
This program is for Black and African youth ages 18–24 living in Kitchener-Waterloo (KW). Whether you're a student, organizer, artist, or simply curious. If you're interested in environmental justice, Black liberation, and reclaiming our stories (and everything in between), you're welcome here. This space is for youth who are curious and eager to dive into these topics and connect with fellow Black and African youth from across the diaspora.
Do I need any experience to apply?
No experience is required. We’re seeking passion, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and build community. This program is rooted in collective learning, everyone brings something to the circle. All we ask is that you are committed to the full 6 weeks of this summer program.
Is this a paid opportunity?
Yes. We value your time and labour. Participants will receive a stipend based on full participation and attendance across the program’s sessions. All programming costs will be covered for the program.
What will I actually do in the program?
You’ll engage in a mix of political education, outdoor land-based learning, storytelling workshops, and community-building activities. You’ll also co-create archival content through writing, media, and more to document our environmental histories and futures.
What is Archive the Diaspora?
Archive the Diaspora is an environmental archive and incubator reconnecting African youth in the diaspora to land, memory, and resistance. It documents our environmental stories while creating space to organize, dream, and build the liberated futures we deserve.
